Garage

Garage is the latest magazine helmed by former POP editor in chief Dasha Zhukova. You’ll find it in high-end magazine retailers and galleries at the end of the month, or if you’re lucky you might find a stray copy at Fashion Week. The oversized glossy, titled after Zhukova’s Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, explores the intersection between the art and fashion worlds.

You may remember us hinting at a special film project Ryan Hope was working on a few months back.
SKIN: A STORY OF ART follows a group of individuals cast from across the globe by Hope who, for their own personal reasons, agreed to be branded with tattoo designs by some of the world’s most recognised contemporary artists including Damien Hirst, Jake & Dinos Chapman and Richard Prince among others.

The 25 minute documentary film will be screened in September to coincide with the launch issue of Garage, which will also feature photographs of the tattooed participants shot by Hedi Slimane.

The inaugural issue has multiple covers. One was a collaboration between Dinos Champan and SHOWstudio’s Nick Knight and features Lily Donaldson as a bulbous-headed doll (shown above). Another cover features a model shot nude from the waist down, her nether regions covered by a butterfly sticker that can be peeled off to reveal a butterfly tattoo on her vagina. Damien Hirst designed both.

Other contributors include Shala Monroque, who is on the masthead as creative director, Joan Juliet Buck as an editorial consultant, Giovanna Battaglia (who apparently made an Alexander McQueen dress out of romaine lettuce for an editorial), Max Snow, Juergen Teller, Tavi Gevinson and Marina Abramovic.
